Use of Technology Supports
During the summer I will be able to use the information that we have been learning to keep in contact with students in regard to their Compass Learning use. If they have any questions we will be able to communicate with the technology being shared. If they have a question, I will be able to show (through modeling) the process to follow to solve problems. I think that is cool because a verbal explanation does not work for all students. I could also see using this with colleagues to work on collaboration with new resources. I think that I will find the technology as we move forward, especially if I am still going to have to travel between 2 buildings next year.

Trudy- I enjoyed reading your thoughts on using Blackboard to provide support for students accessing Compass Learning. At the elementary level we are having daily face-to-face communication throughout summer school, but your post made me think about how having access to an online component could possibly be helpful (perhaps for students who may have questions outside of the summer school hours and/or for those who are not participating in summer school and wish to continue to use Compass Learning throughout the summer). I think that having the video component is essential for some students, like you had mentioned…verbal explanations do not work for all. Prior to reading your reflection, I was not thinking about using this resource with colleagues. I think I was so focused on student use and wondering what it may look like at the elementary level. However, I think that it is a great idea! I am finding myself thinking of many different ways my sixth grade team could use this tool (or one similar) to collaborate during the summer/school year.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea Trudy. You will utilize this technology well as you teach and reteach concepts with kids. It is an exciting new way to stay in contact when times get tight and you can't do as much face-to-face as you'd like.
